During the 2010 sailing season, Star Clippers will make 40 inaugural calls throughout the world on its three tall sailing ships. Repositioning Star Flyer back to the Mediterranean for the summer months and then to Costa Rica for her inaugural sailing season will introduce 33 first-time calls alone.

In addition to Costa Rica, Star Clippers is maintaining it’s core itineraries in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and the Far East, with several inaugural calls complementing passenger0 favourites and proven popular ports.

“Given the current market conditions, we wanted to freshen up our itineraries so that both our loyal past guests and new Star Clippers cruisers would have exciting reasons to select a Star Clippers sailing adventure in 2010,” said Mikael Krafft, owner and president of Star Clippers. “I wanted to introduce our guests to more of my favorite ports that I have been fortunate enough to visit while sailing with my family, and these maiden calls truly are spectacular.”

Star Flyer returns to the Med and makes her debut in Costa Rica

Star Flyer makes her way back to the Mediterranean from Tahiti with a 34-night voyage from Papeete, Tahiti, to Balboa, Panama. The ship will make inaugural calls at Hiva Oa and Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands before heading east across the Pacific. Cocos Islands, Costa Rica, and Pearl Islands, Panama, will welcome Star Clippers for the first time on the cruise, as well as several other already-visited ports.

Star Flyer returns to the Mediterranean in May 2010 with  new seven-night itineraries between Monte Carlo, Monaco, and Cannes, France, or round-trip Monte Carlo. The cruises call at a variety of ports throughout Italy and France, including favourites such as St. Tropez, France; Portofino, Italy; Bonifacio, Corsica, and Portoferraio, Elba. Two inaugural calls debut on the itineraries: Sanary-sur-Mer, France, and Lerici, Italy.

In July and August, Star Flyer moves east offering a series of seven-night, round-trip Rhodes, Greece, cruises. The new itineraries take the ship throughout Greece and venture into Turkey’s “Blue Voyage” region — famous for its stunning beauty and heavy yachting activity. All of the ports are first-time with the exception of a few favourites. The new off-the-beaten-path calls include Olympus, Antalya, Kemer, Kekova, Fethiye, Gocek and Marmaris, Turkey, and in Greece the ship calls at Kastellorizon and Simi for the first time. The 14-night cruises between Monaco and Rhodes in July and August also introduce the ports of Amorgos and Elafonisos, Greece.

In October the ship repositions from the Med back across the Atlantic. The 14-night Panama Canal sailing from Barbados to Balboa includes three inaugural calls: Bonaire, and Porlamar and Blanquilla in Venezuela.

Come November 2010, Star Flyer will sail two seven-night, round-trip itineraries from Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica. The itineraries mark the first time Star Clippers has deployed a vessel in this region, making every stop, new.

The first itinerary calls at San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua; and Santa Rosa Natural Park, Curu Nature Reserve, Samara, Puerto Carrillo and Islas Tortugas, Costa Rica. The second itinerary calls at Isla Coiba, Panama; and Golfito, Isla del Cano, Drake’s Bay, Quepos and Islas Tortugas, Costa Rica.

Star Clippers introduces Myanmar itinerary in Far East

Star Clipper returns to the Mediterranean in May 2010 with the popular seven-night round-trip Athens cruises. Milos and Tinos, Greece, make their debut, along with other  calls also offered in Star Flyer. The ship sails 10- and 11-night cruises between Venice, Italy, and Athens, as well.

Come winter Star Clipper makes her way back to the Far East and sails two itineraries between Singapore and Phuket, Thailand. The ship also sails her two seven-night, round-trip Phuket itineraries, yet for 2010 the line has added an exciting third itinerary including five inaugural  calls at Myanmar in the Mergui Archipelago: Bo Cho, Ko Phawt, Nyaung, Shark Island and Great Swinton Island.

Royal Clipper sails the Med and Caribbean with three new ports

Following a trans-Atlantic crossing, Royal Clipper will sail a 12-night cruise from Malaga, Spain, to Civitavecchia, Italy, in April 2010 introducing the port of Puerto Banus, Spain. The ship will then resume her seven-night round-trip Civitavecchia itineraries and her 10- and 11-night cruises between Venice and Civitavecchia that call at ports throughout Italy, Croatia, Greece and Montenegro.

The ship’s 16-night westbound trans-Atlantic crossing from Lisbon to Barbados in October 2010 offers a  call at Essauira, Morocco. The ship will then sail the popular seven-night, round-trip Barbados itineraries during the winter and spring that call at popular island jewels including St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Martinique, Granada, Bequia and Dominica.

Star Clippers has been in discussions with shipyards to build a new five-masted vessel for the line for delivery in 2010. Set to be the largest, most expensive sailing vessel ever constructed, the 7,400-gross-ton barque is modelled on France II, which at 5,000 gross tons was the world’s largest sailing ship when she was launched in 1912. The ship will be 157 metres long and 18.5 metres at the beam with a draught of six metres. The five-masted vessel will carry 37 sails for a total of 6,350 square metres of sail surface area. The rig will extend 65 metres above the waterline and the open Sun Deck area will be an expansive 2,500 square metres. The ship has been designed to make it capable of operating independently of any port infrastructure. With her Ice Class C hull, extra heavy ground tackle, davit dampening system and specially modified tenders, the ship will be able to sail virtually anywhere in the world. Although 48 per cent larger than Star Clippers’ Royal Clipper — currently the largest full-rigged sailing ship in the world — the new-build will carry only 30 per cent more passengers, with a double-occupancy capacity of 296 and a crew of 140.
The ship will have two 55 square metre owner’s suites that each can be divided into two separate cabins with their own verandahs. Thirty deluxe suites of 30 square metres and two deluxe deck cabins measuring 20 square metres will have private verandahs as well. There will be 104 outside cabins of 15 square metres and 10 inside cabins measuring 12 square metres. Shipboard facilities will include a two-level dining room capable of accommodating all passengers in one seating, a private dining room for groups of 50 or less, a Piano Lounge for dancing and evening music and cocktails, a two-level Tropical Bar, a multipurpose Club Room that can convert to a 160-person conference room, a Dive/Sports Bar with music and televisions tuned to sporting events, an observation room just forward of the large open bridge, a library, spa and gymnasium.

Star Clipper 2008 Sailings

May 31 2007

With next year’s sailing season quickly approaching, Star Clippers has opened the books and is taking reservations for 2008 voyages aboard Star Clipper, Star Flyer and its flagship Royal Clipper.

Diverse itineraries take the three authentic clipper ships around the globe, with Star Flyer celebrating her inaugural season plying the waters of French Polynesia. The ships also offer itineraries in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Far East and Grand Ocean Crossings.

“The upcoming sailing season is the most exciting and comprehensive we’ve ever offered,” said Jack Chatham, vice president of sales and marketing for Star Clippers.
“Because we anticipate advance bookings to be strong, we want to give guests ample time to book their 2008 cruises to ensure they get the itinerary, date and accommodations they desire.”

Come January 2008, Star Flyer’s inaugural season in French Polynesia will just be under way. With three distinct products — seven-, 10- and 11-night round-trip Papeete, Tahiti, cruises — passengers will enjoy several overnight calls, breathtaking scenery and numerous opportunities to snorkel and dive in some of the most spectacular sites in the world. Shore excursions are designed to introduce passengers  to the fascinating culture and history of the Polynesian people.

Ports of call on the year-round cruises include Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Cook Bay and Opunohu Bay (Moorea) in the Society Islands, and Fakarava and Tiputa (Rangiroa) in the Tuamotu Atolls.

From January through March, Star Clipper will assume the Far East route with two different seven-night round-trip Phuket, Thailand, itineraries. The intimate ship — carrying just 170 passengers — visits tiny island jewels throughout Thailand and Malaysia.
The Southern Route includes calls at Batong Group, Penang, Ko Lipe, Ko Khai Nok, Phang Nga/Ko Hong and Similan Islands, while the Northern Route includes Surin, Similan and Phi Phi Islands, Hin Daeng/Ko Rok Nok, Phang Nga/Ko Khai Nok and Langkawi. The ship also will sail two seven-night cruises between Singapore and Phuket.

Due to the popularity of the Mediterranean region, Star Clipper also will sail Greece and Turkey routes in 2008. The ship sails two different seven-night round-trip Athens, Greece, voyages, including stops at passenger favourites such as Rhodes and Santorini, Greece, as well as Bodrum and Kusadasi in Turkey.
The 10- and 11-night itineraries sail between Athens and Venice, Italy, and call at ports throughout Greece and Croatia, as well as Kotor, Montenegro.

With the repositioning of Star Clipper and Star Flyer to other regions, Royal Clipper will be the only ship in the fleet to offer Caribbean itineraries in 2008.
Carrying just 227 passengers, the size of the ship allows the vessel to visit smaller ports that larger cruise ships cannot reach, making its itineraries some of Star Clippers’ most popular.

Royal Clipper sails two different seven-night, round-trip Barbados itineraries. The Windward Islands itinerary features calls at St. Lucia, Dominica, Antigua, St. Kitts, Iles des Saintes and Martinique. The Grenadine Islands itinerary includes calls at The Grenadines, Grenada, Tobago Cays, St. Vincent, Bequia, Martinique and St. Lucia.

During the summer, Royal Clipper will return to the Mediterranean with seven-, 10- and 11-night itineraries. The seven-night cruises sail round-trip Civitavecchia (Rome) and highlight the best of Italy, including an evening sail past the still-active Stromboli volcano.
The 10- and 11-night journeys that sail between Civitavecchia and Venice call at ports in Italy, Sicily, Montenegro, Greece and Croatia.

For those who truly love the sailing experience while also visiting exciting destinations, Star Clippers is offering four Ocean Crossings ranging from 16 to 37 nights in 2008.

Transatlantic journeys take Royal Clipper from Barbados to Malaga, Spain, and on to Rome, and from Lisbon to Barbados. Two 37-night Indian Ocean crossings transit the Suez Canal and take Star Clipper between Phuket and Athens, calling at ports in Greece, Egypt, India and Sri Lanka.

Early bookings were strong for Star Clippers’ 2007 sailing season, so travellers are encouraged to reserve space early to avoid disappointment and ensure they get the cabin of their choice.
